Retrieves the configuration settings that a Source connector accepts, including their data type, whether they are required, their default value, and the values they allow.
Hevo returns these settings as a JSON schema draft 2020-12 definition, in which the settings specific to the connector are grouped under config. Use this schema to build the Source details that you send while creating a Pipeline, or to validate them before you send the request.
The schema states the following:
- A key listed under
requiredmust always be sent. A key that Hevo fills with a default value when it is not sent is not required. - A key that applies only under a condition, such as the credentials of a specific authentication method, is defined in an
if/thenblock insideallOf, and is required only when that condition is met. - A credential is a string marked
writeOnly: trueandformat: password. Hevo never returns credentials in any response. - A key that accepts a fixed set of values is defined as a
oneOflist ofconstvalues, each with its display name intitle. - A key that accepts a fixed set of values that the form does not show as a list is defined as an
enum. - A key with a range, length or format rule carries the
minimum, maximum, minLength, maxLengthorpatternkeyword. - Two keys that you must send together are linked by a
dependentRequiredrule in the object that holds them. - The
typekey lists the Source variants that your team can use. This key is optional. If you omit it, Hevo uses the connector’s base variant. For example, for theSOURCE_CONNECTOR_MYSQLconnector, Hevo usesMYSQL, so sendAURORAto create an Amazon Aurora MySQL Source.
Refer to Reading the Schema for more information about how to read this schema and build a request from it.
The schema describes only the settings that you can configure through the API. A connector that authenticates with OAuth has an auth object, in which you send the credentials of your own OAuth app. Hevo exchanges them for an authorization, so the Source is set up without a browser sign-in. A connector that offers a choice of authentication methods lists every one of them in its authentication method key under config, including the method that signs in through a browser. To set up the Source without a browser, keep or select the OAuth method and send the auth object. The auth object is not listed under the top-level required keyword, but a request that selects an OAuth method without sending the auth object is rejected.
In the auth object, send the client_id and client_secret of your app under client_access, along with one of the following tokens:
refresh_token: A long-lived credential that Hevo exchanges for a new access token each time the current one expires. Most Sources issue a refresh token, so this is the token that most connectors require. The schema always lists bothrefresh_tokenandaccess_tokenunderauth, in ananyOfblock that requires at least one of them. It does not state which of the two a connector needs, so refer to the respective Source documentation for the token to send.access_token: The credential that authorizes each call Hevo makes to your Source. Send this for a Source that does not issue a refresh token, such as Facebook Ads and TikTok Ads.
Some connectors also require an app-level credential, such as the developer_token for Microsoft Ads. The schema lists it alongside client_id and client_secret under auth.client_access. An app credential is listed in client_access, but it is not included in that object’s required list. Send it whenever the provider needs it. Hevo does not check for it when it reads the request, but the Source connection test fails without it, and no Pipeline is created.
Refer to Authenticating SaaS Sources for more information about the credentials that each Source accepts.
